Black Holes and Extra Dimensions

Cool (and wacky) new story on using Sgr A*—the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy, rather than the one in that Muse song—and gravitational lensing to search for extra dimensions.

Fun fact: I did final edits on this story over the phone this morning while we were driving north on the Grapevine section of I-5.

  1. I do appreciate this article. Most science writers have head lines like they are writing for the National Enquirer. They also write like they are salesman for funding.

You on the other hand, write to us huddle masses, like we deserved to be presented science in an adult format.

You put the assumptions up front. Many articles present accepted theories as if they are accepted facts, with no assumtions.

Thanks, this article gives me a lot of respect for your writing.

  2. Thanks! I appreciate that. Before you praise me too much, I must tell you some credit is due to my editors at ScienceNOW, Adrian Cho and David Grimm. As a team, we definitely try to be circumspect and honest about what's going on, and providing background up front is an important part of that.
